Shepherd’s Pie with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
500g ground beef or lamb
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup frozen peas
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
Salt and pepper for mashed potatoes

Method

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter and milk, season with salt and pepper.

Meanwhile, heat a splash of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions, carrots, and garlic until softened.

Add the ground meat, cook until browned. Stir in tomato paste, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Add peas and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Season to taste.

Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish, spreading evenly.

Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading smoothly over the meat.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden on top.
