Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon sugar
→
1 teaspoon salt
→
½ teaspoon black pepper
→
1 teaspoon dried oregano
→
1 teaspoon dried basil

Method

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add sugar, salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes if using.

Mix well and bring to a simmer.

Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

If the sauce thickens too much, add water or broth to reach desired consistency.
